Save 10-20% when you buy Disney gift cards using Happy gift cards (time sensitive)

Happy Gift Cards - Happy Student

A new gift card is out in the wild called the Happy gift card. It comes in various shapes and sizes and has been extensively covered by Doctor of Credit. There are some time sensitive deals out there right now which are good for Disney gift card discount stacking that we thought we’d highlight. While it’s probably too many hoops to jump through for our tastes, some might find it useful to buy Disney gift cards using Happy gift cards.

Note the key here is that Happy gift cards can be used to buy Disney gift cards at Bed Bath & Beyond. We’ve personally tested this by purchasing a $50 Disney gift card with a $50 Happy Student gift card. You may need to find a friendly cashier to scale this, however, as we’ll note below. The following types of Happy gift cards can be used at Bed Bath & Beyond.

  • Happy Lady
  • Happy Bride
  • Happy Student

Here are the current deals out there and our best advice on how to buy discounted Disney gift cards using Happy gift cards. We’ve listed in order of risk/ease. What works best for you (if any) obviously depends on your geographical location and personal situation.

Update: Commenter Barry notes that you can use Happy Guy gift cards at Home Depot for Disney giftcards as well!

Buy Happy Lady, Bride, or Student gift cards at Giftcardmall

The Savings: 16.6%

Offer dates: Offer valid until 10/18/18

How to save: Giftcardmall currently will sell you a $60 Happy gift card for $50. The Happy Lady, Bride, and Student versions, which are the ones relevant to Disney enthusiasts, are included (though there are lots of other options if you like restaurants like Buffalo Wild Wings. Guilty!).

That represents a savings of 16.6%. You can use your $60 Happy gift card at Bed Bath & Beyond for Disney gift cards, effectively saving 16.6% on your Disney gift cards.

How to stack: As always, we recommend using cashbackmonitor.com or equivalent and purchase through a portal like Ebates. The worst that can happen is you don’t get any extra cashback. Be sure to use any credit cards you might have that earn extra for online purchases.

Caveats: You will likely need to do multiple swipes at a cashier at Bed Bath & Beyond if you want to scale this at all. For example, you could buy $300 worth of Disney gift cards, but you’d need to swipe five different $60 Happy cards. The registers allow this, but you’ll need to tell your cashier you want to charge $60 at a time for each card. Be sure not to allow any “breakage”. If you have $10 left on the Happy card after buying a $50 Disney giftcard, buy some measuring spoons or something :).

Buy Happy Lady gift cards at Safeway (et al.)

The Savings: 10%

Offer dates:  Coupon expires 10/16/18

How to save: Grocery stores using the Just4U programs allow you to load a digital coupon saving you 10% on Happy Lady gift cards. Be sure to first load the coupon to your account by logging into your Just4U account and clicking “Special Offers”. Once loaded, you should be able to buy a $500 variable Happy Lady card for 10% off. Then take that Happy Lady card to Bed Bath & Beyond to buy Disney gift cards.

Update: You can do the same with Happy Guy (also 10%) at Home Depot.

This should work at any grocery store using the Just4U program such as Safeway, Vons, Albertson’s, or Shaw’s.

How to stack: Use a credit card with a grocery store spending bonus to earn extra rewards. Make sure to use your card in case you can get gas points (applicable grocery stores).

How to scale(?): After you’ve used the coupon once, you can test to see if you can load it to your account again. We didn’t get a chance to try this so please let us know if you have any experience.

Caveats: This is a much “simpler” deal than Giftcardmall. Though the savings is lower, it should be pretty straightforward since you only have to do one swipe. Again, you may get a finicky cashier, but this is a much easier sell than multiple swipes. The Bed Bath & Beyond registers aren’t hard coded against this, so you should be fine with some talking (if you get any trouble at all).

Important: Be sure to liquidate quickly, as for some inexplicable reason these card numbers are exposed. We recommend going straight to Bed Bath & Beyond after purchase.

Buy Happy Lady, Bride, or Student gift cards at Stop & Shop/Giant

The Savings: 20%

Offer dates: Until 10/20/18

How to save: Load the Happy Lady, Bride, and Student digital coupons into your Stop & Shop or Giant account. This will give you $10 off a grocery purchase in the same transaction as your Happy gift card purchase, so do it when you’re buying groceries. I bought $12 of groceries and a $50 Happy Student gift card and paid $52. Use your $50 Happy gift card to buy a $50 Disney gift card at Bed Bath & Beyond. Assuming you were buying groceries anyway, this is effectively 20% off (though I personally consider it more like 15% when I account for Stop & Shop’s prices compared to my regular grocery store).

Update: You can also use with Happy Guy at Home Depot.

How to stack: Use a credit card with a grocery store spending bonus to earn extra rewards. Make sure to use your card in case you can get gas points (applicable grocery stores).

How to scale: It’s relatively straightforward to do this three times with your personal account. It’s also fairly easy to get multiple Stop & Shop cards, however, the fact that you need to redeem the coupon in the same transaction probably limits you. Depending on how much food your kids eat, I guess.

Caveats: Since you’re buying in $50 increments, you’ll need to find a cashier who won’t mind you swiping multiple times. Again, the cash registers aren’t coded against doing this, but sometimes cashiers get weird.

Important: Be sure to liquidate quickly, as for some inexplicable reason these card numbers are exposed. We recommend going straight to Bed Bath & Beyond after purchase.

Buy Happy Lady, Bride, or Student gift cards at Office Depot/Max

The Savings: 20-23%

Offer dates: Expires 10/13/18

How to save: Currently, if you buy TWO Happy gift cards totaling $50 or more (total), you receive $10 off at Office Max/Depot. So you could buy two $25 Happy Lady, Bride, or Student gift cards at Office Max/Depot and then use them to buy a $25 or $50 Disney gift card (two swipes) at Bed Bath & Beyond.

How to stack: Use a credit card that offers a bonus at office supply stores and be sure to use Ebates in-store cashback.

How to scale: You may be able to do this multiple times in multiple trips, or perhaps in one trip (some Office Max/Depot deals have worked like this in the past). We haven’t tried ourselves yet, though.

Caveats: This is definitely the most annoying of the current “deals”. While offering the biggest % off, that’s a lot of swiping you’re going to have to do at Bed Bath & Beyond. And don’t forget:

Important: Be sure to liquidate quickly, as for some inexplicable reason these card numbers are exposed. We recommend going straight to Bed Bath & Beyond after purchase.
